Caddy Softener
When hard water is passed through an RO system such as the RODI Caddy ot QuattRO, calcium deposits will gradually build up on the surface of the membranes. Eventually these deposits will cause the membrane to fail and it will need to be replaced.
This build up can be prevented by using a water softener.
A softener will replace calcium and magnesium ions in the water with sodium ions. Sodium ions form salt crystals on the remaining impurities in the water, increasing their size and enabling them to be more easily removed by the RO membrane. This results in longer life from both the RO membrane and the DI filter.
Water softeners are not replaced after a period of time like other filters. However they must be regenerated with salt on a regular basis. Time intervals between regenerations are as follows:
